How to Set Up Business Email on iPhone

The built-in Mail app on iPhone and iPad works with any custom domain email that supports IMAP and SMTP. Here's how to add your business address manually.

Settings you'll need

Host namePortSSL
Incoming (IMAP)mail.maililo.com993On
Outgoing (SMTP)mail.maililo.com465On

Username: your full email address. Password: your mailbox password.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Apps → Mail → Mail Accounts → Add Account. (On older iOS versions: Settings → Mail → Accounts → Add Account.)
  3. Tap Other → Add Mail Account.
  4. Enter your name, email address, password and a description (for example "Work"). Tap Next.
  5. Make sure IMAP is selected at the top.
  6. Under Incoming Mail Server:
    • Host Name: mail.maililo.com
    • User Name: your full email address
    • Password: your password
  7. Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter the same host name, user name and password.
  8. Tap Next. iOS checks the settings. When it's done, make sure Mail is switched on and tap Save.

Check the ports and encryption

iOS usually picks the right ports automatically. To confirm:

  1. Go back to Mail Accounts and tap your new account → Account (your email address).
  2. Tap Advanced and check the incoming settings: Use SSL on, server port 993.
  3. Go back, tap SMTP → the primary server, and check: Use SSL on, authentication Password, server port 465.

Make it your default address

If you want new messages to be sent from your business address: Settings → Apps → Mail → Default Account and choose it.

Add a signature

Settings → Apps → Mail → Signature. You can set one signature per account.

Troubleshooting

  • "Cannot Verify Server Identity": make sure the host name is exactly mail.maililo.com. Don't trust a certificate for a different name.
  • "Username or password incorrect": use the full email address as the username; check autocapitalization didn't change your password.
  • Can receive but not send: open the SMTP settings and confirm port 465, SSL on and password authentication.
  • Sent messages missing on other devices: under Account → Advanced → Mailbox Behaviors, set Sent Mailbox to the server's Sent folder.
